19th Century Nautical Watercolor, Period Gilt Frame
A Bonnie Braes Favorite: Antique Nautical Paintings (Alexis' Pick)
'Columbites on Ship Rock', signed by Artist G.A, and Dated 1881 on lower left corner. Incredible original watercolor of ships approaching land or an isle, with watchtower or lighthouse on hill. The blue and green hues of the water have been painted to perfection, showing the movement and choppiness of the water as the ships approach or anchor.
Framed behind glass and in original period gilt frame, highly ornate scrolling mould work and thick gold band filet. A detailed moulded filet lines the painting for an added detail and artistry in the framing. The frame is in overall great condition, with exception to slight chipping on two corners of the ornate moulding. The frame is heavy and solid, estimate ten pounds for frame and glass.
Dimensions: 25 inches wide, 17 inches high, 2 inches deep
Period: 19th Century, 1881 | Provenance: Scotland, United Kingdom
