Comes with vintage newspaper clipping from the UK, "What It's Worth: Tobacco Pot Luck". Notes the popularization of tobacco leaf by Sir Walter Raleigh when it was first imported from America to the United Kingdom in the 16th century. Tobacco was originally kept in jars made of cast iron, lead, pewter, brass, silver, porcelain, stone and wood. The jars were decorated with foxes, crowns, eagles, and masonic symbols. Many of these pieces incorporated pressers to compact the tobacco and keep it moist.
