Antique Burred Walnut Writing Slope, Circa 1860, English
This 19th Century English Travel Desk Writing box, made of Burred Wood and Inlay, with decorative brass escutcheons. There is a locking mechanism for which a key can be made. Within is a leather top writing slope, space for storage of stationary, pens, ink vessels. There are two hidden compartments; the upper is held with a brass latch, and the lower compartment lifts up from the base on the leather writing surface. The Interior compartments are in incredible condition.
This piece is a classic, traditional addition to shelves, offices, or to be displayed on a chest of drawers in any room or space. The burred wood detail and wood inlay provide a beautiful contrast with one another, an uncommon combination in these older boxes.
